BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's soccer team hosts New Mexico to conclude its home slate for the 2016 campaign and celebrate Senior Night on Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. The Blazers boast a record of 6-6-3 this season and are 2-3-1 in Conference USA. The Lobos enter at 7-6-1 and 1-3-1 in conference.
This game is key for both teams in battling for one of the seven positions in the Conference USA Tournament. UAB enters with seven points and is in fifth place while New Mexico has four points. The Blazers only have one game left after this contest while every other team behind them has two games left. A win over the Lobos and at least one point at FIU would guarantee the Blazers a spot in the conference tournament.

SENIOR NIGHT
The Blazers are celebrating Senior Night on Wednesday and will be honoring five seniors before the match. Joe Kuzminsky, James Ngoe, Henrique Sposito, Lars Willemse, and William White will each be recognized before the match for their accomplishments in their Green & Gold careers. UAB has won 34 games over the last four years including an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014. The Blazers also accomplished the feat of becoming the first school in Conference USA history to win 100 games in the conference with a 3-0 defeat of Marshall on September 17. Each of the five players started that game including a goal for Ngoe and an assist for Sposito.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB lost on the road No. 9 Charlotte last Saturday evening 5-0. UAB trailed 2-0 at halftime with the first goal for Charlotte and Brandt Bronico coming eight minutes into the contest. A free kick for a handball just outside the box was originally blocked but Bronico drilled the rebound into the lower left corner.
Bronico's other two goals both came on penalty kicks less than four minutes apart. Bronico made the most of each, coming in the 55th and 59th minutes, which gave Charlotte a 4-0 advantage.
The last goal occurred in the 79th minute for the 49ers. UAB back-up goalkeeper Julian Mehl and had recently entered in place of Joe Kuzminsky and misplayed a ball which led to a goal for Cha Sunol-Rojas.
The Blazers finished with seven shots, four of which were on goal, while Charlotte had 10 shots in total and seven on target.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO
The Lobos have experienced an up-and-down season. They tested themselves out of the gate with a pair of 1-0 losses to Indiana and Notre Dame, two teams currently ranked in the top 12. New Mexico followed with five straight wins but has now lost three of its last four contests. The last three games each went into double overtime with a 2-2 home tie against Marshall as its most recent result.
The Lobos have scored 21 goals to date, the third-most in Conference USA, and have been led in attack by Niko Hansen. The two-time All-Conference honoree has scored a league-high nine goals this season. That mark also ranks tied for 20th in the nation as he improves his career total to 24, the seventh-most in school history.
