UAB Softball Signs Rian Brown

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team and head coach Marla Townsend announced the signing of Rian Brown to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday.
“I have had the pleasure of watching Rian play softball since she was in middle school,” said Townsend. “Her hard work and dedication to the sport has really paid off. I am looking forward to her arrival on campus next fall as well as working with her talent to make the most of her collegiate career.”
Brown comes to UAB from Springville High School in Springville, Ala., where she has led SHS to three consecutive AHSAA Regionals.
Brown set Springville’s single-season records in both home runs and RBI during the 2014 season. The 2014 season also saw Brown earn St. Clair All-County and Class 5A ASWA All-State Honorable Mention honors.
Brown served as team captain for SHS throughout the 2015 season, leading the team in RBIs and home runs. Brown also set the career home run record at Springville during the 2015 season.
Last season, Brown led Springville to the 2015 AHSAA 5A State Championship while racking up Class 5A ASWA All-State First Team and AL.com Super All-State Second Team honors. She was named to the AHSAA State All-Tournament Team and AHSAA North All-Star Team.
Brown also earned St. Clair County All-Tournament Team honors while earning the tournament’s MVP title.
Brown is also a member of the Birmingham Vipers, where she has had a successful travel ball career. Brown has won three travel ball championships: 2012 PGF 14u National Championship, 2013 ASA 14u TN Regional Championship and the 2013 PGF 14u FL Regional Championship.
Brown also made two appearances at nationals in 2014 at the ASA 18u “A” Nationals and the TC/USA Nationals.
Brown has also been a member of the 2014-15 Varsity St. Clair County Championship, the 2015 ASA 16u AL State Championship and the 2011 USFA 14u Fall World Series Championship teams.
Brown is also a tremendous student, earning an honors diploma and boasting a 3.8 GPA. Brown is a member of Springville’s Beta Club.
Brown is the daughter of Ray and Celeste Brown. She has one sister, McKenzie. Her anticipated major is biomedical sciences with a minor in nutrition.
