BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Nine former members of the UAB men’s golf team are currently playing professional golf all across the globe. This group of Blazers has had a tremendous amount of success during their respective 2014 seasons.
Two-time All-American Graeme McDowell successfully defended his Open de France title on the European Tour this past weekend in Paris, France. McDowell currently is in 58th place in the PGA Tour’s Fed Ex Cup Standings with five top-10 finishes on the year.
Will Wilcox had his best showing on the PGA Tour this past weekend, placing fourth at The Greenbrier Classic. Wilcox has two top-10 finishes for the year and is in 147th place in the FedEx Cup Standings.
Zack Sucher looks to be on his way to the PGA Tour through the Web.com Tour. Sucher is currently in 21st place on the Web.com Tour Money List. A top-25 finish on the tour money list guarantees a PGA Tour card. Sucher tied for 16th place last weekend at the Nova Scotia Open, his seventh top-25 finish.
Garrett Osborn joins Sucher on the Web.com Tour. Osborn tied with Sucher at the Nova Scotia Open, placing 16th, and tied for 10th at United Leasing Championship presented by PTI on June 29 in his only two events of the year.
Kyle Sapp is continuing his playing career on the Emerald Coast Professional Golf Tour. Sapp is currently in seventh place on the 2014 money list. Sapp was the leading money winner last season on Emerald Coast Tour.
Hunter Hawkins and Sam Love are both currently tied for 44th place on the Hopkins Golf Pro Tour money list. Hawkins and Love tied for second place at the Trophy Club Classic in Alpharetta, Ga.
Thomas Sutton is six places behind the UAB duo on the Hopkins Tour money list. Sutton has played in two events this season, placing 10th at the Monroe Classic and 12th at the Summergrove Classic.
2014 All-Conference USA First Team honoree Wilson McDonald is the fourth former Blazer on the Hopkins Tour. McDonald currently is in 78th place on the money list after a 12th place finish at the Summergrove Classic.
