Softball Announces Fall Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team has announced its 2014 fall schedule. The Blazers will host three home series, starting with a doubleheader against Wallace-Hanceville on Friday, Oct. 10.
“Fall practice has been very competitive,” said head coach Marla Townsend. “Our eight newcomers have really worked hard to compete for immediate playing time. We look forward to facing outside competition this fall, and our coaching staff feels that we have really improved since early September. Our four seniors take a lot of pride in the programs past success and are relentless in their pursuit of excellence.”
UAB will host Wallace-Hanceville on Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at the UAB Softball Field. Wallace-Hanceville claimed the Alabama Community College Conference North Division last season, posting a 15-6 record in conference play and a 44-26 mark overall.
The Blazers’ fall ball continues on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Jacksonville State’s Tera Ross Tournament at the Oxford Lakes Softball Complex in Oxford, Ala. UAB will play two games in the one-day tournament, starting with Snead State at 10 a.m. Following the conclusion of game one, the Blazers will face off against Alabama Southern at 11:45 a.m.
The Blazers wrap up their fall schedule next week with a pair of home doubleheaders. Shelton State comes to the UAB Softball Field on Tuesday, Oct. 14, with the first pitch slated for 3 p.m. Snead State and UAB meet up once again this fall on Oct. 16. First pitch from the UAB Softball Field is at 4 p.m., with a second game to beginning shortly after the conclusion of game one.
The Blazers advanced to their fifth-straight NCAA Tournament last season, as they posted a season mark of 32-27. UAB is just one of 23 programs in the nation to make five-consecutive trips to the tournament. The Blazers’ RPI of No. 26 was the highest in program history as they played the nation’s second-toughest non-conference schedule a year ago.
