Women's Tennis Strong In Doubles At Steve Baras

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The UAB women’s tennis doubles team of Paula Castro and Caroline Faught, along with the tandem of Rachel Daniell and Elaine Simon and the duo of Sarah Witkowski and Catherine Ragon made it to the championship of their respective draws at the Steve Baras Fall Classic.
UAB freshman Catherine Ragon was also impressive on the day, advancing to the championship of the No. 5 singles draw with a 7-5, 6-0 win against Carmen Rodriguez.
“Once again, I felt like we really competed well today,” head coach Lisa Jackson said. “We showed some toughness in doubles today, and I was very pleased with how we performed.”
In doubles, Castro and Faught ran past Virginie Stein and Jana Hueckinghaus from Kennesaw State, 8-7(3), while Daniell and Simon took an 8-5 victory over their opponents from Lipscomb.
Witkowski and Ragon rounded out the doubles wins with a dominating 8-2 triumph against Kennesaw State’s Alexandra Apostu and Tamara Plocher.
UAB will be back in action on Sunday, starting at 7 a.m. CT.
