BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Prior to the Auburn-Montgomery exhibition match on Tuesday night, the UAB men's soccer team announced its captains for the 2013 campaign. Juniors Alex Clay and Darion Copeland were elected team captains, as selected by the squad.
Clay has been a mainstay in the Blazer midfield since he arrived on campus in 2011. Last season, the Huntsville, Ala. native racked up four assists, which ranked second on the team.
Copeland serves as the anchor in the UAB backline. In his two years in Birmingham, he has started all but one game at defense. For his efforts on the field, Copeland has been named to the 2011 Conference USA All-Freshman Team, 2012 All-Conference USA Second Team, and 2011 NSCAA All-Southeast Region Third Team. This year, he was the team's lone representative on the Preseason All-C-USA Team.
The newly elected captains will lead the Green and Gold onto the pitch on Thursday, Aug. 22 when the team hosts Montevallo in its second exhibition match of 2013. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available upon entry. UAB students get in free with their valid UAB student ID. An adult ticket is $5.00, youth (6-18 years old) tickets are $3.00, and children, five years old and younger, get in free.
