BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — UAB’s women’s tennis team wraps up the 2012-13 regular season this weekend as the Blazers travel to South Alabama and West Florida for two matches.
UAB begins the action at 11 a.m. CT Saturday in Mobile, Ala., against the Jaguars. The Blazers then conclude the weekend at Division II power West Florida in Pensacola, Fla., on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
The Blazers, who own a 12-6 overall record under first-year head coach Lisa Jackson, have a chance to reach the 14-win plateau for the first time since 2007 and for just the eighth time in UAB’s 22-year history.
The Green and Gold are currently on a four-match win streak and have won six out of the last eight on the season, including a 4-3 win against C-USA foe UTEP on Sunday.
Against the Miners, senior Menanteau Moolman clinched the match with a thrilling three-set win, giving the UAB seniors a 3-1 record on Senior Day.
Leading the Blazers all season has been Isabel Fernandez, who boasts a 14-4 dual match singles record, while teammate Rachel Daniell is 13-5 in singles play this season.
On Saturday, UAB faces a South Alabama team that is 14-9 overall and will play in its final contest of the season. West Florida, the Blazers’ Sunday opponent, is ranked No. 9 in the ITA Division II rankings with a 15-5 overall record and 8-0 mark in Gulf South Conference action.
Following play this week, the Blazers head to the Conference USA Tournament, scheduled for April 18-21 in Houston, Texas.
