TUSCALOOSA, Ala.--The UAB softball team fell to No. 4/5 Alabama, 11-0, in six innings on Wednesday night at Rhoads Stadium.
With the loss, UAB falls to 24-9 on the year while Alabama improves to 37-6.
The Blazers picked up a pair of hits in the top of the second inning, starting with senior right fielder Chandler Orr's two-out bunt. Senior catcher Anna Kimbrell followed with another single down the left field line, but the runners were left stranded as sophomore Hayley Davis lined out to short to end the frame.
Alabama got on the board in the bottom of the second, plating four runs on five hits, including a two-RBI single up the middle by second baseman Kaila Hunt. The Crimson Tide scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a RBI single up the middle by designated hitter Jackie Traina.
UAB would strand three more runners in the fifth and six innings before pinch hitter Leona Lafaele hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.
In the circle, each of the three Blazer pitchers made an appearance, with senior Lauren Webster (8-3) picking up the loss. For Alabama, Leslie Jury (13-3) threw in all six innings.
Up next, the Blazers will hit the road to take on Tulsa in a crucial Conference USA series as both teams lead the league with records of 11-1. The three games will start with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT, while Sunday's finale is set for a Noon CT first pitch.
