EUGENE, Ore. ----- Wilson McDonald fired a 36-hole total of even par 144 to lead the UAB men’s golf team to a sixth place start at the Duck Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon.
All five UAB golfers had good showings in the opening 36 holes of the tournament, with no golfer carding a score over 75.
McDonald led the way with a two-round total of 144 to end the day in a tie for 14th place. He opened with a two-over par 74 in the morning round and finished with a two-under par 70 in the afternoon.
Sam Love led the Blazers after the morning round with an even par 72. He fired a one-over par 73 in the second round to finish with a 145 total.
Hunter Hawkins was the only other Blazer to card an under par round. After an opening round 75, Hawkins shot a one-under par 71 in the afternoon round to finish at two-over par 146.
Paul Dunne and Thomas Sutton rounded out the scoring for the Blazers with scores of 147 and 149, respectively.
The Blazers sit in sixth place for the tournament with a score of 582. Oregon leads the team standings with a total of 567. SMU and Washington rounds out the top three with scores of 574 and 576, respectively. St. Mary’s (Calif.) and Oregon State are tied for fourth at 581, one stroke ahead of UAB.
Oregon’s Jonathan Woo fired an eight-under par 136 over the opening 36-holes to take the lead in the individual standings. Wichita State’s Louis Cohen Boyer is one-stroke behind Woo in second place at 137. Cody Blick, of San Jose State, rounds out the top three in a tightly packed leaderboard at 138.
The final round of the Duck Invitational is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. PT (10:30 a.m. CT). Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
