STATESBORO, Ga. ----- Junior Sam Love fired a six-under par 66 to climb up the individual standings on Saturday while the UAB men's golf team fell from a tie for fifth to 12th place after two rounds at the Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern.
Love, who began the day in a tie for 55th place at four-over par, closed out his round with birdies on five of his last six holes to finish at six-under par for the day and in a tie for sixth place individually.
Love is five shots behind Alabama's Justin Thomas who is leading the tournament at seven-under par and two strokes behind second place.
As a team, UAB fell from a tie for fifth to 12th place after a second round 303.
Thomas Sutton carded a two-over par 74 on Saturday and currently sits in a tie for 18th place at one-over par for the tournament.
Martin Rohwer fired a 75 (+3) for UAB while Wilson McDonald, Paul Dunne and Hunter Hawkins each shot rounds of 77 (+5) in the second round.
"We were on the verge of a good round but struggled on the back nine. The guys are eager to get after it tomorrow and play a great final round," said UAB assistant coach Alan Murray.
Alabama sits atop the team standings with a 563 two-day total. Texas is in second place at 565 and Florida rounds out the top three at 581.
