Castro And Witkowski Win At ITA Southern Regional

AUBURN, Ala. – UAB's women's tennis doubles pair of Paula Castro and Sarah Witkowski took home a win in the first round of the ITA Southern Regional on Friday.
Witkowski and Castro defeated Jazmin Britos and Marta Sramkova from Louisiana Tech, 8-6, in the Round of 32.
The Blazer duo of Rachel Daniell and Caroline Faught fell in a tight 8-7 (5) match to Nicholls' Stephanie Barnett and Katya Nakonechnaya to wrap up doubles action for UAB.
In singles, the Blazers faced tough competition with three matches against Southeastern Conference foes. Alabama's Emily Zabor defeated Daniell, 6-0, 7-5, while Castro dropped a 6-0, 6-0 contest to LSU's Ella Taylor. Meanwhile, Faught fell to Auburn's Ashley Kitchen, 6-3, 6-1.
