Women's Tennis Heads To ITA Southern Regional

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB's women's tennis team travels to Auburn, Ala., this weekend to take part in the ITA Southern Regional.
UAB is one of 14 teams that will participate in this year's event at the Tigers' Yarbrough Tennis Center, which features 12 outdoor courts, six indoor courts and 16 clay courts.
Play is scheduled to get underway at 8 a.m. Friday through Sunday, and will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday.
The team's competing this weekend include Auburn, Alabama, Nicholls State, Tulane, South Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, LSU, McNeese State, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, Samford, Troy and UAB.
The Blazers roster features four freshmen (Giovanna Baccarini, Paula Castro, Pardis Kianoush and Catherine Ragon), two sophomores (Amy Lowther and Elaine Simon), two juniors (Rachel Daniell and Sarah Witkowski) and one senior (Caroline Faught) who will compete at this weekend's event.
UAB has already had success so far in the fall season. In her first tournament as a Blazer, freshman Catherine Ragon won the No. 5 singles flight of the Steve Baras Fall Classic, while Simon took home a championship in the No. 7 singles flight at the Samford Fall Invite.
