Women's Tennis Opens Fall At Atlanta Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team will kick off its 2011-12 campaign under the direction of new head coach Lisa Jackson with a trip to Atlanta, Ga., to participate in the Atlanta Classic on Sept. 14-16 at the Sharon Lester Tennis Center at Piedmont Park.
The ITA-certified tournament will record individual singles and doubles results only and won't record team scores or records. The matches will give the returning starters a chance to earn results vs. solid competition and the newcomers a chance to adjust to the college game.
The tournament will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. ET with the first flight of doubles play, followed by the first flight of singles play at 10 a.m. ET. There will be a total of four schools competing, including host Georgia State, UAB, North Florida and Emory. All of the schools will have faced each other by the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday.
