Men's Golf Team Departs For Stanford Regional

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's golf team departed Birmingham on Monday afternoon en route to Stanford, Calif. to compete at the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Championship. The Blazers are set to begin competition on Thursday morning at the Stanford University Golf Course.
The sixth-seeded Blazers begin play Thursday morning on the No. 1 tee at 8:50 a.m. PT (10:50 a.m. CT) alongside fourth-seeded UCF and fifth-seed LSU.
UAB's lineup will consist of senior Jason Shufflebotham, junior Hunter Hawkins, sophomores Sam Love and Thomas Sutton and freshman Paul Dunne.
UAB, ranked No. 35 in the nation by Golfweek.com, earned the region's No. 6 seed in the 13-team field.
The top five teams from each of the six regionals will advance to compete at the NCAA Nationals, which will be held from May 29-June 3 at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
The Blazers will play their practice round at the par 70. 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course on Wednesday before beginning competition on Thursday morning. The tournament can be followed live by logging onto Golfstat.com.
The top seed in the 2012 Stanford Regional is No. 2 ranked Cal Bears, who is fresh off its first-ever Pac-12 title. Regional-host Stanford is the second-seeded team in the field and ranked eighth nationally. In addition to the sixth-seeded Blazers, the field also includes in order of remaining seeding (#14) San Diego State, (#22) UCF, (#23) LSU, UAB, Wichita State, Tennessee, Oregon State, Southeastern Louisiana, San Francisco, San Jose State and UC Davis.
