Blazers Hike To Hattiesburg For Three-Game Set

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –The UAB softball team will make its final regular season road trip this weekend when it travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a three-game series against Southern Miss. The Blazers and Golden Eagles square off in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. CT, followed by a single game on Sunday also at 1 p.m.
Out of 56 total games this season the Blazers have played 37 contests on the road. The Southern Miss series will wrap up the second of two nine-game road swings this year.
In the most recent ESPN.com/USA Softball poll (4/24), UAB is receiving one vote. UAB is rated No. 41 in the NCAA’s latest RPI and the third highest among C-USA schools. Tulsa has the highest rank at No. 35, followed by Houston at No. 40.

UAB At A Glance
The Conference USA second-place Blazers (32-17, 13-5) won two midweek games at Lipscomb on Tuesday (4-0, 3-0) and look to carry that momentum into the weekend set.
Five Blazers are hitting over .300 led by senior Mandy Lowman (.381, 51-for-134). As a team, UAB is batting .287, out-scoring opponents 213-134 and out-hitting the opposition 370-283.
The UAB pitching staff is second in conference with a 2.24 ERA. Senior Amber Torres (9-3, 1.04 ERA) and sophomore Lannah Campbell (11-6, 1.79 ERA) each have five shutouts. Sophomore Leigh Streetman has seen the most time in the circle with 116.0 innings pitched and 114 strikeouts.
Scouting Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles (13-27, 4-13) are looking to rebound after a 1-0 loss to in-state rival Mississippi State on Wednesday.
Southern Miss is batting .242 as a team, with Caroline Walker holding the top spot (.327). The Golden Eagles have been held to 162 runs and 268 hits on the season.
The Golden Eagles own a 4.00 ERA. Beth Dietrich (7-11, 3.16 ERA) has tossed 13 complete games and 128.2 innings, allowing 146 hits and 72 runs. She has walked just 19 batters and has struck out 69 hitters.
Series History
The Blazers and Golden Eagles will meet for the 40th time on Saturday. Southern Miss holds the all-time advantage, 23-16.
However, it was the Blazers that were victorious last season, sweeping the Golden Eagles in Birmingham on March 19-20.
Coming Up Next
UAB will wrap up its regular season with a home stand against league-leading Tulsa on May 5-6. The first game of the series on Saturday will be at 11:30 a.m. and will be televised on Fox Sports Network.
