BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Tuesday's women's tennis match between UAB and Emory was suspended by rain in the late stages of the contest and will not be completed.
The Blazers trailed 3-2 with two matches still on the court when play was stopped at Brook Highland Racquet Club, but neither squad reached the four points necessary to win the team match.
UAB remains 6-9 on the season, while Emory -- the second-ranked team in NCAA Division III-- remains 10-3.
Before the rain came Tuesday, UAB won two of three doubles matches to claim the opening point and also picked up a win from Caroline Faught over Lauren Pinsky at No. 4 singles.
Emory's first point came at No. 6 singles, where UAB was forced to default the match because of injury. The Eagles then managed wins at the No. 2 position, where Zahra Dawson defeated Isabel Fernandez, and at the No. 5 spot, where Brenna Kelly topped Menanteau Moolman.
The No. 1 singles match between UAB's Paula Alvarez and Emory's Gabrielle Clark was headed to a third set when play was stopped, while Emory's Malavik Padmanabhan was up a set on UAB's Rachel Daniell at the No. 3 position.
While no team winner was determined, completed results will count toward players' individual records for the season.
UAB will return to the court twice more in Birmingham this week as the regular season wraps up. The Blazers will host Louisiana-Monroe on Friday (12 p.m.) at George Ward Park and Tulane on Saturday (11 a.m.) at the UAB Tennis Courts. UAB will celebrate Campus Kids Day at Saturday's match.
