Women's Tennis Wins Close One At Wofford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team won the doubles point Sunday for the fourth time in five matches, and it proved to be critical in a 4-3 victory over Wofford.
The Blazers (4-6) got doubles wins from their No. 2 team of Rachel Daniell and Menanteau Moolman and their No. 3 duo of Caroline Faught and Sarah Witkowski, staking them to an important 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
The lead was even more crucial because the Blazers went on to forfeit the No. 6 singles position because of injury. But they managed to secure three of the five remaining matches close their weekend road trip with a win.
Paula Alvarez clinched the match for UAB with her 6-4, 6-4 win over Julia Paulson at No. 2 singles. The Blazers also picked up singles victories at the No. 3 and No. 5 posiitons.
Daniell was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Audrey Coventry at No. 3, and Faught claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Emily Przystawski at No. 5.
Wofford (3-6) picked up wins at No. 1 singles, where Sarah Evans downed Isabel Fernandez, 7-5, 6-3, and No. 4 singles, where Othilia Lindqvist defeated Moolman in a tight match, 7-6, 6-7, 10-3.
UAB will be in action twice this week, hosting Jacksonville State for a Noon CT first serve on Thursday at the UAB Tennis Courts and hosting Arkansas State at George Ward Park with an 11:30 a.m. CT start time on Saturday.
