BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Thomas Sutton, a sophomore for the UAB men's golf team, has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
This marks the third time that Sutton has earned the accolade during his career.
Sutton is coming off his best tournament of the fall season, finishing in ninth place at the prestigious Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. He carded a season-best round of 69 in the opening 18 holes of the event, helping his team to a sixth-place finish. It marked the best 18-hole score of the fall season by a UAB golfer.
In the classroom, Sutton has also performed well, maintaining a 3.37 GPA as an accounting major. He is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned a spot on the Dean's List during the Fall 2011 semester. He is also the men's golf representative on the UAB Student Athletic Advisory Committee.
Sutton and the Blazers are getting ready to compete in the final tournament of the fall season, the Princeville Warrior Wave Invitational, which will be held in Princeville, Hawaii on Nov. 7-8.
