Men's Golf Team Finishes Sixth at Jerry Pate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's golf carded a final round of 288 on Tuesday and finished tied for sixth overall at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate with a team total of 880 (297-295-288). The Blazers finished one place ahead of No. 50 Mississippi State (884) in the 12-team field that featured six teams ranked among the top 50 in the nation.
The Blazers were led by junior Thomas Sutton, who finished in ninth overall after recording rounds of 69-73-73 to finish with a five-over par 215. It marked Sutton's first top-10 finish of the year and fourth of his career. Moreover, it was the third-lowest 54-hole score of his career.
Junior Sam Love shot the team's low round of the day, carding a one-over par 71 on the par 70, 7,204-yard Old Overton Golf Course. Love finished the two-day, 54-hole event tied for 15th overall with a 219 (76-72-71).
Junior Conner Pratt placed 26th overall with a 223 (76-75-72), while sophomore Paul Dunne tied for 36th overall with a 226 (79-75-72). Freshman Martin Rohwer rounded out the Blazers with a 228 (76-77-75) to close play in a tie for 43rd.
Tournament host and No. 9 Alabama captured its fifth team title in the past seven years of the event, finishing with a team score 857. Fifth-ranked Florida finished second with an 861, while No. 40 Auburn (867), No. 26 UNLV (868) and No. 28 Clemson (870) rounded out the top five.
Alabama's Justin Thomas won the individual medalist honor with a two-under par 208.
The Blazers will next be in action Nov. 6-8 at the Princeville Warrior/Wave Invitational in Princeville, Hawaii. It will be the final tournament of the fall season for UAB.
