BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB senior Thomas Sutton carded a season-low round of 69 and was in a tie for fourth overall after the first round of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, which is being held at the Old Overton Golf Course in Birmingham, Ala.
The second round was not completed due to a fog delay prior to the start of Monday's first round. The conclusion of the second round will be played Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CDT). Nine of the 12 teams have players remaining on the course. The third round is scheduled to be played starting at 8:30 a.m.
As a team, the Blazers finished the opening 18 holes with a team total of 297 to place seventh overall.
Sutton started the tournament off by going two-under through his first nine holes, including an eagle on the 318-yard par 4 15th hole, on his way to a one-under 69. He was just one stroke back of the overall lead of two-under 68, which was recorded by three different golfers.
Freshman Martin Rohwer and juniors Conner Pratt and Sam Love are in a tie for 34th overall with a 76, while sophomore Paul Dunne rounded out the UAB golfers in a tie for 49th overall with a 79.
Fifth-ranked Florida held the first round lead with a 282, followed by tournament host and No. 9 Alabama (288). UNLV, ranked No. 26 in the nation, is in third (290), while No. 28 Clemson (293), No. 40 Auburn (296) and No. 50 Mississippi State (296) are just ahead of UAB.
