BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB freshman pitcher Leigh Streetman was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after going 4-0 for the Blazer softball team last week. It marks the first weekly honor of her career and second pitcher of the week award for UAB this season.
Streetman led the Blazers to four straight wins last week, tossing a combined 18.1 innings without surrendering a run. The Hueytown, Ala., native fanned a total of 23 batters, including 10 in her complete-game, three-hit shutout of Marshall on Saturday. Streetman held Jacksonville State without a hit in four innings of relief last Thursday and also made relief appearances in the first and third games of the series against Marshall.
The righty joins pitcher Alisha Smith and catcher Mandy Lowman as the three Blazers to earn a weekly award this season. Smith was named pitcher of the week on March 7, while Lowman received hitter of the week honors on March 14.
Streetman and the Blazers head to Greenville, N.C., this week for the 2011 C-USA Softball Championship hosted by East Carolina. No. 3 seed UAB will take on No. 6 seed UCF on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT.
