BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB freshman pitcher Leigh Streetman was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Mideast All-Region Second Team, as announced on Thursday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Streetman is the fifth Blazer in program history to earn all-region accolades.
Streetman holds a 15-7 record and her 1.18 ERA ranks 12th nationally. The Hueytown, Ala., received Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors earlier this month and was named C-USA's Pitcher of the Week in the final week of the season after picking up four straight wins for the Blazers without surrendering a run through 18.1 innings of work. She set the school's single-season record this year with seven saves, which also ranks as the most in a career for a Blazer pitcher.
The freshman hurler joins Mandy Lowman, Kayla Orr, Martina Landrum and Lauren Webster as the five Blazers to receive all-region accolades. This also marks the third straight year UAB has had at least one representative on the all-region teams.
Streetman and the Blazers are set to face Florida State in the Athens Regional of the 2011 NCAA Softball Championship hosted by the University of Georgia. The Blazers and Seminoles square off at 2:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. CT on Friday at Jack Turner Softball Stadium in Athens, Ga.
