2011 All-Conference USA Awards
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB centerfielder Caley Walden was named to the All-Conference USA First Team and catcher Mandy Lowman earned second-team honors, as announced Wednesday by the league office. Pitcher Leigh Streetman rounded out the Blazer honorees, earning all-freshman team accolades.
Walden picked up her second career all-conference honor, having earned a spot on the all-freshman team in 2008. The Vestavia Hills, Ala., native has started all 54 games for the Blazers and ranks second in the conference in hits (60), seventh in batting average (.333) and eighth in stolen bases (18). Her .926 career stolen base percentage is the best in UAB history, and she ranks fourth in the school's record book with 50 career stolen bases.
Lowman receives all-conference recognition for the second straight year after earning first-team honors last season. A native of Huntsville, Ala., Lowman is tied for the team lead with five home runs and has driven in 19 runs, including 14 in league action. Her .461 on-base percentage in C-USA games ranks fourth in the conference, while her .576 slugging percentage is eighth. She is hitting .322 against league opponents, the second-best average on the team behind Walden's .342 average.
Streetman makes it four years in a row that the Blazers have had an all-freshman team honoree. She holds a 15-7 record while ranking fourth in the league in ERA (1.20), fifth in opponent batting average (.191) and fourth in strikeouts (182). She set the school's single-season record this year with seven saves, which also ranks as the most in a career for a Blazer pitcher.
The Blazers kick off postseason action on Thursday at the 2011 Conference USA Championship hosted by East Carolina. No. 3 seed UAB will face No. 6 seed UCF in the opening round at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT at ECU Softball Stadium in Greenville, N.C.
