UAB Women's Tennis Team Downs Murray State 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team handed Murray State a 6-1 loss Friday at the Lakeshore Tennis Center as the Blazers closed a stretch of five matches in seven days.
UAB (6-7) posted victories at each of the top five singles positions against the Racers (4-10), highlighted by Paula Alvarez's 6-0, 6-1 win over Ashley Canty at the No. 2 spot.
Caroline Faught and Menanteau Moolman were also straight-set winners for the Blazers at the No. 3 and No. 5 positions.
Evelien Strijker (No. 1) and Jenny Cape (No. 4) each pulled out three-set victories for UAB. Strijker overcame a first-set loss to defeat Cassidy Cunitz 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, and Cape earned a 7-6, 0-6, 10-4 win over Taylor Vick in a match tiebreaker.
Murray State's Carla Suga earned the Racers only point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Rachel Cohen at No. 6 singles.
UAB also claimed the doubles point Friday on the strength of victories from its No. 1 team of Cape and Strijker and its No. 2 duo of Alvarez and Faught.
The Blazers will now have 10 days off until they return to the court March 30 with a 9 a.m. CT on-campus match against Abilene Christian.
