Men's Golf Team Finishes 15th At John Hayt Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's golf team finished in 15th overall at the John Hayt Intercollegiate, posting a three-day, 54-hole tally of 913 (297-312-304). Junior Tyler Hock led the Blazers with a 21st-place result, which marks the first time he led his squad in tournament action this season.
Hock carded the low round of the day for the Blazers, shooting a one-over par 73 on the par 72, 6,895-yard layout of Sawgrass CC's East and West courses. The Ocala, Fla. native finished the event with a six-over par 222 (70-79-73).
Redshirt freshamn Thomas Sutton entered the final 18 holes tied for eighth overall, but struggled during Tuesday's round, finishing the day with a disappointing 10-over par 82. Sutton closed the tournament with a 225 (68-75-82) to finish tied for 38th overall, which marks his second-best finish in a tournament this year.
Junior Jason Shufflebotham (79-79-75) and freshman Sam Love (80-79-74) both carded a three-round score of 233 to close play tied for 69th overall, while junior Blake Watts rounded out the Blazers with a 273.
Arkansas (867), ranked 20th in the nation, shot the low score of the day at 5-under par 283 to vault into first place and claim the championship title by two strokes over No. 13 Auburn (869). Seventh-ranked LSU (871) finished third with No. 29 UCF (879) and No. 46 Tennessee (882) rounding out the top five.
In all, the 15-team field featured nine ranked teams, including No. 2 Florida who placed in a tie for sixth overall with an 885.
Florida's Phillip Choi, ranked No. 25 in the nation, claimed the individual medalist honor with a three-day score of seven-under par 209.
The Blazers will return to action next weekend when they travel to Lafayette, La. to compete at the Lousiana Classic on March 7-8.
