BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB senior Jamarr Sanders was selected as the Conference USA Player of the Week, announced the league office on Monday. It marks the first time in his career that Sanders has earned the weekly conference accolade.
Sanders led UAB to a pair of conference wins last week. In the 74-68 win over Rice on Saturday, he tallied a career-best 37 points, marking the most points scored in a Conference USA game this season. Furthermore, his output was the fifth-best in a game in UAB history. It also marked the first time a UAB player recorded more than 35 points in a contest since Robert Vaden achieved the feat by scoring 41 points at UTEP on Feb. 27, 2008.
For the night, Sanders connected on 11-of-22 from the floor, and his eight three-pointers tied for the second-most treys in a game in program history. The performance against the Owls followed a 17-point output in an important road victory at Marshall on Wednesday night. For the week, Sanders averaged 27.0 points a game, while shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the arc.
Sanders and the Blazers will travel to take on Memphis on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. CT. The contest will be televised nationally on CBS College Sports.
