Natalie Mitchell Named Student-Athlete Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Natalie Mitchell, a senior infielder for the UAB softball team, has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Mitchell has had a stellar career for the Blazers on the softball field, playing in 86 career contests, while making 65 starts during her first three seasons. Last year, the Kingston, Pa. native played in 37 contests with 31 starts while helping the Blazers to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. She hit two home runs and had nine RBIs on the year.
In the classroom, Mitchell has been even more impressive, as she carries a 4.0 GPA as a biology major. For her efforts, Mitchell was honored as a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Academic All-American. She is a two-time recipient of the Conference USA Academic Medal, as well as a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. Furthermore, Mitchell has also been inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Saturday morning on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:30 a.m. on ABC 33/40.
Mitchell and the Blazers open the 2011 campaign Feb. 11-13 as they compete at the All-Alabama Softball Classic. UAB will open with Jacksonville State (3:30 p.m.) and South Alabama (6 p.m.) on Friday, Feb. 11 at Liberty Park in Vestavia Hills, Ala. The Blazers will also play Samford (1:30 p.m.) and Troy (4 p.m.) on Saturday and Alabama A&M (1:30 p.m.) on Sunday.
