Blazers Post Strong Weekend At Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The UAB women's tennis team posted a combined record of 14-6 in singles matches and a 6-1 mark on the doubles courts this weekend at the Southern Miss Halloween Classic.
Freshman Rachel Daniell led the Blazers with a 4-0 singles record, while sophomore Caroline Faught went 3-0. Junior Isabel Fernandez finished the weekend 4-1, and senior Paula Alvarez was 3-1.
The duo of Alvarez and Faught led the way in doubles with a perfect 2-0 record.
A total of 10 teams were in the tournament: UAB, Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana, Murray State, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Central Arkansas, and Jacksonville State.
UAB played eight pseudo-team matches, each one involving three singles matches and one doubles contest, though there was no actual team scoring. All matches featured eight-game pro sets.
Here is the Blazers' win-loss record this weekend against each team (singles first, then doubles): Central Arkansas (3-0, 0-1), Murray State (2-1, 1-0), Lamar (1-2, 1-0), Southeastern Louisiana (2-0, 1-0), Jacksonville State (2-1, 1-0), Louisiana-Lafayette (2-1, 1-0).
UAB also went 2-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles against a combined team of Northwestern State and Nicholls State players. The Blazers did not face off against Southern Miss.

This weekend's tournament wrapped up the fall schedule for UAB, which will now turn its attention to the 2012 spring campaign.
