Moolman, Daniell Advance To Finals of Doubles Flight At UTC

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Menanteau Moolman won two consolation singles matches Saturday and teamed with Rachel Daniell for a victory that moved them into the main draw finals of their doubles flight on day two at the UTC Steve Baras Classic.
Moolman earned a pair of straight-set wins over Lipscomb's Deahna Welcher (7-6, 6-4) and Murray State's Carla Suga (6-3, 6-4) to advance to the consolation finals of the Platinum flight. She will meet Kennesaw State's Tess Lagerkvist on Sunday morning.
Moolman will also take the court Sunday with Daniell in the main draw finals of the Platinum doubles flight after an 8-5 victory over Mercer's duo of Amanda Bertani and Melanie Schumilas. The second-seeded team of Moolman and Daniell will meet Stetson's Diana Bukajeva and Jennifer Miller on Sunday.
Another UAB doubles tandem, Paula Alvarez and Isabel Fernandez, was not in action Saturday but will compete in the consolation finals of the Blue doubles flight on Sunday. Similarly, Rachel Cohen, who is teaming with Lipscomb's Sam Bowman in the Silver doubles flight, will compete in the consolation finals on Sunday.
Cohen was the only other Blazer active in singles action Saturday, falling 6-2, 7-6 to Chattanooga's Charlotte Bossy in the consolation draw of her flight. Alvarez, Daniell and Fernandez were not in action in singles Saturday after each player won once and lost once Friday in main draw action.
The tournament will conclude Sunday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga.
