BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Former Blazer golfing great Graeme McDowell continues to receive notoriety for his US Open championship back in mid-June. The UAB graduate and three-year men's golf letterwinner is on the cover of GolfSouth Magazine's most recent issue, which includes a four-page spread detailing McDowell's rise in the golfing world.
McDowell took the PGA Tour by storm when he captured the 110th US Open title on June 20th in Pebble Beach, Calif. In doing so, he became the first UAB golfer to ever win a major championship.
The article prominently features McDowell's UAB golfing career, which spanned three years (1999-2002). He garnered back-to-back All-American honors (2001 and 2002) and was awarded the prestigious Fred Haskins Award in 2002, given annually to the nation's top collegiate golfer. He finished that season ranked No. 1 in the nation.
