BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- For the second year in a row, the UAB women's tennis program has been recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team and three Blazers have been honored individually as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The awards reflect classroom performance for the 2009-10 academic year. The team award goes to programs with a 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA, taking into account all student-athletes that competed during the season.
The individual Scholar-Athlete awards recognize varsity letterwinners that achieve at least a 3.5 GPA for the academic year. UAB's honorees were Jenny Cape and Evelien Strijker, now seniors, and Menanteau Moolman, now a sophomore.
Cape was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection in 2010 and a member of the Conference USA All-Academic Team. Strijker is a two-time all-conference performer, while Moolman completed her first year with the Blazers last spring.
Cape and Strijker were both ITA Scholar-Athletes in 2009, as well.
