BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB sophomore catcher Mandy Lowman has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV softball second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This marks her first career academic all-district honors.
"It's nice to see Mandy recognized for her hard work," UAB head coach Marla Townsend said. "She is a true student-athlete and has a strong work ethic that has served her well both on the field and in the classroom."
Lowman, a secondary education major with a focus in mathematics, has a perfect 4.0 GPA. The Huntsville, Ala., product was tabbed a 2009 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete, and is a two-time Conference USA Academic Medal recipient and C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. She has also been named to UAB's President's List and Dean's List every semester of her career.
On the field, Lowman has been an offensive force for the Blazers this season. She is hitting at a .351 clip and has posted a .591 slugging percentage. She has tallied 10 doubles, a team-high nine home runs and 35 RBI. From behind the plate, she has picked off five runners and caught 12 runners stealing.
Lowman and the UAB softball team (34-18, 13-8 C-USA) return to action this weekend for the final league series of the season at Southern Miss. The action gets underway Saturday at Southern Miss Softball Complex with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. CT and continues Sunday with a contest at 1 p.m.
