BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Shortstop Kayla Orr has been named Conference USA's Hitter of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Orr batted .526 and recorded a 1.211 slugging percentage over six games for UAB last week. The sophomore slugger went 10-19 with eight runs, four home runs and eight RBI.
"This is a great accomplishment for Kayla," UAB head coach Marla Townsend said. "She displays a confidence at the plate that is contagious to her teammates and helps everyone produce offensively."
Orr's week was highlighted by going 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against UTEP. She also went 3-for-4 with three runs in the nightcap at Lipscomb Tuesday.
The Hartselle, Ala., product blasted homers in each game of last weekend's three-game series against UTEP to bring her season total to eight.
Orr is now tied for the most hits in C-USA (55) and ranks third with a .367 batting average and 37 RBI.
The UAB softball team returns to action Tuesday as it hosts Troy for a contest at UAB Softball Field. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. CT.
