BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB will open the 2010 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship in Tulsa, Okla., on Thursday with a 10 a.m. CT first-round match against Tulane at Case Tennis Center.
The conference office released the tournament bracket on Monday with the Blazers receiving the No. 11 seed and being matched up against the sixth-seeded Green Wave.
The UAB-Tulane winner will move on to face No. 3 seed Rice in Friday's quarterfinal round. Rice joined the remaining top seeds, SMU (No.1), Tulsa (No. 2) and Marshall (No. 4), in receiving first-round byes. Tournament seeding was based upon the most recent ITA rankings.
Fans can follow all the action this week through Championship Central at conferenceusa.com.
UAB concluded the regular season with a record of 10-10 after its season finale at Houston was suspended by rain on Sunday. That match was tied 3-3 with doubles play in the early going when the rains came. Houston was the seventh conference opponent of the season for the Blazers, which posted a 2-4 record in the other six matches.
Tulane enters the tournament with a 12-8 record, including a 4-2 mark against league opponents. The Green Wave is riding a four-match winning streak after defeating Memphis and Southern Miss two weekends ago in its final regular season action.
UAB and Tulane met on March 22 in Birmingham with the Green Wave earning a 4-0 win indoors at the Samford Tennis Center. Tulane was ranked No. 67 in the ITA rankings at the time.
