BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team closes its regular season this weekend with a trip to Houston for two matches against Conference USA opponents.
The Blazers play at No. 41 Rice on Saturday at Noon CT and at Houston on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. CT in their final tuneups for next week's C-USA Championships.
UAB (10-9) has played just once in the past 12 days, having earned a 5-2 win on the road at Kennesaw State last Saturday. The Blazers took the doubles point against the Owls and then won four of the six singles matches, including a three-set victory at the No. 6 position by Jenny Cape as she ran her personal winning streak to seven matches.
Cape leads UAB this spring with a 13-4 singles record, while Giorgia Romeo (11-8) and Evelien Strijker (10-8) have also reached double-digit win totals. Romeo and Strijker have combined for a 9-3 record at No. 1 doubles.
Rice (12-8) checks in at No. 41 in the latest ITA rankings, having split a pair of matches last weekend with a loss to SMU and a win over North Texas. Houston (11-7) is coming off a 4-3 win over McNeese State on Wednesday in the Cougars most recent action.
This weekend's opponents will mark the sixth and seventh league foes of the season for UAB as the Blazers prepare for the C-USA Championships, scheduled for April 22-25 in Tulsa, Okla.
