BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team is winding down on its 2010 spring drills with only two practices remaining following Wednesday morning's two-hour workout on campus.
Head coach Neil Callaway saw plenty he liked at practice on Wednesday.
"It was a good workday," Callaway said. "I thought both sides competed hard and I was really pleased with it (the practice). They got it after it today."
Callaway was also happy to see a couple players in action for the first time this spring in cornerback T.J. Ballou and offensive lineman Kaycee Ike. Ballou, a junior college transfer from East Mississippi CC, enrolled in January while Ike, from Lawrenceville, Ga., redshirted last season as a true freshman. Both have been out this spring due to injuries.
"It was good to get those guys back today," Callaway said. "They both got a lot of work in. They haven't been able to do much for the spring. I thought T.J. made some big plays. He was rusty on a lot of things, but I was impressed with the way he adjusted to the ball."
The Blazers will have a light workout Friday morning before they hold their Spring Game on Saturday at Wes Campus Field. The game is scheduled to kick off at 11:00 a.m. and will be broadcast on WJOX 94.5 FM from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. David Crane, Jake Arians and Josh Lee will call the game from campus Saturday morning.
