Blazer Women's Tennis Rolls Over Wofford, 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team won three singles matches without dropping a game Sunday on the way to a 6-1 team victory over Wofford at the Blazers' on-campus tennis courts.
Evelien Strijker at No. 1 singles, Giorgia Romeo at No. 3 and Jenny Cape at No. 6 each won their matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Paula Alvarez (No. 2) was also a straight-set winner, while Menanteau Moolman (No. 5) led 5-2 in the first set when her opponent was forced to retire.
"I was really proud of the way we came out today and rebounded from Friday's loss to Air Force," UAB head coach Krissy Hall said. "We had great energy and focus throughout the entire day."
Wofford's only point came at No. 5 singles where the Terriers' Stephanie Cox won a 7-5 first set from Brittany DeFelice before DeFelice retired because of illness.
UAB dominated the doubles action, as well. DeFelice and Moolman won the No. 2 doubles match, 8-7 (4), over Haley Baird and Sabrina Smyers. The No. 1 duo of Romeo and Strijker and the No. 3 tandem of Alvarez and Cape won by scores of 8-2 and 8-1, respectively.
UAB improved to 7-3 win the win, while Wofford dropped to 1-10 on the season. The Blazers return to action Friday with a Noon ET match at Kennesaw State.
