BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Caley Walden, a junior member of the Blazer softball team, has been chosen as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
A local product from Vestavia Hills High School, Walden is the first UAB student-athlete to go through the university's rigorous nursing program during a playing career. She has compiled a 3.24 GPA at UAB and was a Conference USA Academic Honor Roll member in 2007-08.
On the field, Walden has been one of the Blazers' top hitters this spring with a .369 batting average. She has started 21 games in the Blazer outfield, scoring 13 runs and driving in eight. Additionally, Walden is a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:05 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
Walden and the UAB softball team (17-8) visit No. 5 Alabama on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch. The Blazers are then off for eight days before hosting a three-game Conference USA series with Houston, starting April 2.
