BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team will play six home games during the 2010 season, including three straight at Legion Field during the month of November, according to the schedule announced Tuesday by UAB and Conference USA officials.
UAB will play seven schools that participated in bowl games last season.
The Blazers, who will be playing their fourth year under head coach Neil Callaway, will open at home for the third consecutive season when they play host to Florida Atlantic on Sept. 4. This will be the third consecutive season that UAB has played the Owls.
A week after the opener, the Blazers will travel to Dallas, Texas to begin their C-USA slate, taking on the SMU Mustangs on Sept. 11. UAB returns home to Legion Field on Sept. 18 to play host to Troy in the eighth meeting between the two schools.
The Blazers will play their third non-conference game in the first four weeks of the season on Sept. 25 when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to meet Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee. UAB and the Volunteers will be playing for the fourth time.
After an open date the first Saturday in October, the Blazers will head to Orlando, Fla. for a mid-week, nationally-televised game at UCF on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The contest will be televised by ESPN.
UAB plays another C-USA home game on Oct. 16 when the Blazers welcome the UTEP Miners to Birmingham. A road game at Mississippi State follows on Oct. 23 as UAB plays the Bulldogs for the fourth time.
Following the game against MSU, the Blazers get back to league play with an Oct. 30 contest at Southern Miss. UAB defeated the Golden Eagles for the first time in series history last season at Legion Field, 30-17.
Entering the month of November, the Blazers will play three consecutive C-USA home games, starting with a Nov. 6 date against Marshall. On Nov. 13, UAB will play host to defending conference champion East Carolina before closing out its 2010 home schedule on Nov. 20 against Memphis in the annual Battle for the Bones.
"I'm excited about the schedule we have for this season," said UAB head coach Neil Callaway. "I think it sets up pretty well for us. It's very challenging, as it always is, not only from a conference standpoint, but also with the non-conference games we have. But we're looking forward to the opportunity we have this season."
The Blazers will then conclude the regular season schedule with a C-USA road game Nov. 27 at Rice.
Other television games will be announced at a later date.
