UAB Softball Signs Four For 2012 Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB softball head coach Marla Townsend announced four additions to her squad Tuesday during the early signing period. All four players have signed National Letters of Intent to suit up for the Blazers in 2012.

The recruiting class includes Hayley Davis (Tarpon Lake, Fla./East Lake HS), Amy Dennis (Mobile, Ala./Faith Academy), Chandler Orr (Hartselle, Ala./Wallace State CC) and Anna Theriot (Wetumpka, Ala./Wetumpka HS).
"My coaching staff and I are extremely excited with this signing class," UAB head coach Marla Townsend said. "These ladies are talented individuals who know the expectation of being a Division I athlete. Their passion for UAB is obvious and they are outstanding students as well as athletes."
Hayley Davis • IF • Tarpon Lake, Fla./East Lake HS
Davis was one of East Lake High School's leading hitters during her junior season. She recorded a .369 batting average and drove in 18 runs. She also launched two home runs and five doubles in 2010. Davis was named to the 2010 All-Pinellas County Second Team and the All-Pinellas County Athletic Conference (PCAC) Second Team.
Davis played in the 2009 Under Armour All-America Softball Game, featuring 30 of the top high school players from across the nation. She also received All-Pinellas County Second Team and All-PCAC Second Team accolades after her sophomore season.
In 2008, Davis was named to the All-Pinellas County First Team, second-team All-PCAC and the St. Petersburg Times All-Suncoast Second Team.

Amy Dennis • IF • Mobile, Ala./Faith Academy
Dennis posted a .393 batting average during her junior season at Faith Academy in 2010. She also recorded 30 RBI, 10 doubles and was 9-for-10 in stolen bases. In 2009, she had a .371 batting average with 21 RBI. She also launched five long balls and 10 doubles.
Dennis was named to the Mobile Press Register Super 12 First Team and the Mobile Area Coaches Association All-County First Team in both 2009 and 2010. She was a two-time Kiwanis International Player of the Week and Faith Academy's team MVP in 2009.
During her freshman season, Dennis hit .399 with 24 extra-base hits and 36 RBI to earn Faith Academy's 2008 Varsity Offensive Player of the Year award.
Dennis is also the starting shooting guard for Faith Academy's basketball team.
For the past seven seasons, Dennis has played for the Mobile Thrillers Gen X softball travel team. The Thrillers finished third at the 2009 16U Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) state tournament and 17th at the ASA national tournament.
Chandler Orr • C • Hartselle, Ala./Wallace State CC
Orr comes to UAB from Wallace State Community College. In 2010, Orr recorded a .273 batting average with 42 hits, five doubles, two triples and five home runs. She notched 28 RBI and posted a .365 on-base percentage as she helped the Lady Lions finish as the national runner-up last spring. Wallace State also captured the 2010 Alabama Community College Conference State and Region 22 Championships and the North Division Title.
Orr attended Hartselle High School in Hartselle, Ala., where was named to the all-state team in 2008 and 2009, and received all-area honors in 2008.
Orr's older sister Kayla is a junior at UAB and is currently the starting shortstop on the Blazer softball team.
Anna Theriot • OF • Wetumpka, Ala./Wetumpka HS
Theriot has been a two-year starter for the Wetumpka Lady Indians in both the infield and the outfield. In 2010, she recorded a .297 batting average and a .412 slugging percentage. She collected 29 RBI, 37 runs scored and a .358 on-base percentage to help the Indians win 33 games.

During her sophomore season in 2009, Theriot posted a .391 batting average. She blasted five home runs and boasted a .742 slugging percentage to earn both all-county and all-metro honors.
Theriot plays travel ball for the Birmingham Vipers `93 team during the summer and fall. Her team went to the 16U ASA national tournament in both 2008 and 2009.
