UAB Women's Tennis Competes At ITA Southern Regional

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team will have seven players competing in this weekend's ITA Southern Regional Championships in Birmingham.
Samford is the event host with UAB assisting. All matches will be played either at the Samford Tennis Center or the Lakeshore Tennis Center. The action gets underway Friday and play continues through the finals on Monday.
In addition to UAB and the host Bulldogs, the 2010 field includes players from Alabama, Auburn, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, Mississippi State, Northwestern State, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Troy and Tulane.
UAB's Evelien Strijker, Giorgia Romeo, Paula Alvarez and Caroline Faught will be competing in the A singles draw. Richole Berger, Jenny Cape and Menanteau Moolman will be playing in the B draw.
In doubles, the UAB teams of Strijker/Faught and Cape/Romeo will be competing in the A draw, while the duo of Moolman/Alvarez will be playing in the B draw.
Matches in the A flights are scheduled be played at both Samford and Lakeshore on Friday and Saturday and then shift completely to Samford for Sunday and Monday. All B flight matches throughout the tournament will be played indoors at Samford.
All draws will follow a first-match consolation format, guaranteeing at least two matches for each singles player and doubles team.
Players in the A draws will be competing this weekend for the right to advance to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, held Nov. 4-7 at the USTA-Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. Winners from both the main singles and doubles draws will earn a berth.
