BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB's Elijah Millsap was selected as the Conference USA Co-Rookie of the Week, announced league officials on Monday. The award is the fourth weekly honor Millsap has received from the conference, as he was the league's Rookie of the Week on Nov. 16 and the Player of the Week on Dec. 21 and on Jan. 4.
"Elijah had another big week last week," UAB head coach Mike Davis said. "To start out conference play with back-to-back double-doubles is outstanding. He played a big role in our team being able to pull out two very tough games this past week. I am happy the media from around the league recognized him for his efforts."
Millsap, who shares this week's award with Memphis' Elliot Williams, had another outstanding week in helping UAB to a 2-0 start in C-USA and improving to 14-2 overall, including wins in 13 of the last 14 contests. The 6-6, 220-pound guard collected a pair of double-doubles, bringing his C-USA-leading total to nine, in a home win versus East Carolina on Wednesday and a road victory at Tulane on Saturday.
Millsap opened the week by collecting 25 points, 12 rebounds and four steals in the 76-68 win over the Pirates last Wednesday night. He followed that performance with a 13-point, 10-rebound outing at Tulane in the Blazers' 58-49 victory. For the week, Millsap averaged 19.0 points and 11.0 rebounds while making 11-of-28 shots from the floor and shooting an impressive 17-of-19 from the foul line.
For the season, the Grambling, La. native averaged 17.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest, while also contributing 2.1 steals and 1.9 assists per contest. He currently leads the league in double-doubles and rebounding, is fifth in scoring and ranks sixth in steals.
Millsap and the Blazers will next be in action on Saturday night with they travel to Dallas, Texas to take on SMU at 7 p.m. CT.
