UAB Recognizes Jenny Cape With Student-Athlete Honor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Jenny Cape, a junior member of the Blazer women's tennis program, has been named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Cape won two matches over the weekend and advanced to the consolation bracket finals of her singles draw at the Troy Fall Invitational. She is in her third year as part of the Blazer lineup, having played mostly at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions last spring in addition to seeing action at every spot in the doubles order.
Away from the court, Cape has been recognized for her academic work. This past spring, the biology major was selected to the Conference USA Women's Tennis All-Academic Team. Cape, a member of the Science and Technology Honors Program at UAB, has also earned the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal twice.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
The women's tennis team has played two fall events so far in 2009 and returns to the court again Oct. 9-11 at the UNF Fall Invitational in Jacksonville.
