TROY, Ala. -- With their second win in as many days, Paula Alvarez and Giorgia Romeo of the UAB women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the A doubles flight at this weekend's Troy Fall Invitational.
Alvarez and Romeo defeated Tennessee Tech's duo of Katie Barnhill and Leydi Zora, 8-3, on Saturday to earn their semifinal spot.
Romeo, who won her opening match a day ago in the B singles draw, suffered a three-set defeat to Troy's Rosaura Ramirez-Vega on Saturday. In the C flight, Jenny Cape won her Saturday singles match to stay alive in the consolation bracket.
Rain halted play Saturday afternoon for the second day in a row, delaying Cape's consolation semifinal match until Sunday. She and the doubles team of Alvarez and Romeo will be back on the court Sunday for the final day of the tournament.
Play is scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. Sunday. Complete tournament draws are available online at troytrojans.com, the official site of Troy Athletics.
