UAB Announces Additions To Future Football Schedules

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB has added four football games against Southeastern Conference schools to its future schedules, including a home-and-home extension with Mississippi State, and will also have an upcoming home-and-home series with Navy, according to an announcement Monday by Blazers' Director of Athletics Brian Mackin.
With two games remaining (2010 away and 2011 at home) in its current five-game agreement with MSU, UAB will also play the Bulldogs in Birmingham in 2013 before traveling back to Starkville during the 2014 season.  
With the 2013 home game vs. Mississippi State, the Blazers will have three consecutive seasons that they play host to an SEC school as Ole Miss was already slated to travel to Birmingham in 2012 and Mississippi State in 2011.
Mackin also announced that in 2013 UAB will play LSU in Baton Rouge, the site of perhaps the Blazers' most memorable victory in their young history.  UAB defeated the Tigers, 13-10, in the 2000 season.
The Blazers will also play Tennessee in Knoxville for the fifth time when they travel to Neyland Stadium for a matchup during the 2015 season.  UAB will also play the Volunteers there in September, 2010.
UAB also will welcome Navy onto its schedule for games in 2016 and 2017.  The Midshipmen, who entered the 2009 season with a streak of six consecutive bowl appearances, will host the Blazers for the first game before returning the game a season later in Birmingham.
"We're excited to add these games to our future schedules," said Mackin. "I think matchups with SEC schools are good for us and attractive to our fans. By adding a home game with Mississippi State, and the home games we already have in place with Ole Miss (2012) and Mississippi State (2011), we will have SEC opponents coming to Birmingham to play us three consecutive years.
"We are also extremely pleased to add a home-and-home series with Navy. Navy has an outstanding football program and it is always a great experience to play one of our service academies."
