BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's soccer team will host its final home exhibition contest of the 2009 campaign when the Blazers take on the Belmont Bruins on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at West Campus Field.
The match will be the second preseason contest for both squads. The Blazers are coming off an impressive 3-0 win over Clemson on Saturday night. The game was played in front of a West Campus Field record crowd of 3,481 fans, besting the previous mark of 2,755, set on Oct. 25, 2006 when the Blazers beat then-No. 1 SMU, 2-1.
Senior Two-Boys Gumede, sophomore Babayele Sodade and freshman Reed Matte each scored a goal to lead the Blazers to the win over the Tigers. Two goalkeepers combined for the shutout, as sophomore Carl Woszczynski started and played 60 minutes, while senior Wes Johnson saw action over the final 30 minutes.
Belmont dropped a 3-1 decision to Tusculum College on Aug. 21 in its first exhibition contest this season. Sophomore Will Moorad scored the Bruins' only goal in the losing effort.
Admission will cost $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-18. Children under the age of six, as well as UAB students with a valid student ID, will receive free admission.
