BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Birmingham product Rachel Douglas-Cohen has committed to coach Krissy Hall and the UAB women's tennis program. A 2009 graduate of Mountain Brook High School, she will compete for the Blazers starting this fall.
A team captain at Mountain Brook, Douglas-Cohen was a standout in both singles and doubles. She made four state finals appearances in singles and won a state championship as a freshman, the same season in which she was named her team's MVP. In doubles, she was a three-time state finalist with state titles in both her junior and senior seasons.
In addition to her high school success, Douglas-Cohen also proved herself as an accomplished USTA junior player. She was ranked as high as No. 3 in the state of Alabama and reached the top 100 in the South region.
"We're very excited to add a Birmingham native to our roster," Hall said. "Rachel is an impressive young woman who will be highly committed to our program. Her dedication to academics matches her dedication to tennis, and we know she will be an asset to our team in many ways."
Douglas-Cohen will study math/sciences as a part of the honors program at UAB. She is the daughter of Adam and Brenda Cohen.
