BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After being named Conference USA's Co-Newcomer of the Year a week ago, UAB outfielder Martina Landrum has now been named as a member of the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region team for the Mideast Region announced the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday. Landrum is the first UAB softball player in program history to receive the award.
"I'm so proud of Martina," said UAB head coach Marla Townsend. "For her to battle back from injury and play with such a great attitude is a sign of a great team player. She has done everything we have asked of her and more. It's a great honor to have Martina wearing Green and Gold."
Landrum started all 55 games in centerfield and led UAB this season with a .358 batting average. She set multiple individual records, including the single-season marks for on base percentage (.461), runs scored (40), stolen bases (38) and stolen bases attempted (42). She also tied the UAB single-game stolen base record on three occasions this season, swiping three bags against Alabama A&M and twice against Tulsa.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America teams.
