BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team will play one of its two scheduled matches this week. The Blazers travel to Middle Tennessee Friday, but their Thursday match at Kennesaw State has been cancelled.
Kennesaw State has been forced to reschedule a conference match for Thursday, so the match with UAB -- which had already been moved twice, will not be played. UAB has now had seven total matches cancelled this spring because of weather or rescheduling conflicts.
Friday's match between UAB and Middle Tennessee is scheduled for a Noon (CT) start in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The Blazers have won three of the past four meetings between the teams, but Middle Tennessee earned a 6-0 win last spring in Birmingham. UAB won 4-3 in 2007, the last time the teams met in Murfreesboro.
UAB enters the contest at 5-8 on the season and looking to snap a three-match losing skid. Playing without injured No. 1 player Evelien Strijker, the Blazers lost a pair of matches last weekend to Abilene Christian and UTEP.
Middle Tennessee is 8-11 this spring coming off recent road losses at Denver and Marshall. After starting the season 6-1, the Blue Raiders are 2-10 in their past 12 matches.
Friday's contest is the last regular-season match for UAB and the Blazers' final tuneup before the Conference USA Championships. The league tournament, hosted by Rice, gets underway April 16 in Houston.
