BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's cross country squad has been honored by being named one of the NCAA Division I All-Academic teams by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the seventh straight year. The team's cumulative grade point average is 3.33.
"Being named as an all-academic team has become a priority in my recruiting over the past few years," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "The girls know it is very important to keep their grades up so we can keep this streak going."
The Blazers finished sixth at the NCAA South Regionals and fourth at the Conference USA Championship in the fall.
A record total of 160 Division I women's programs received the USTFCCCA's All-Academic Team honors this year compared to 158 schools from last season.
Over forty-five percent of all Division I institutions (394) who sponsor women's cross country received the honor.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.0 team cumulative grade point average.
